FAQ

My ID is expired and/or the name doesn't match the document I need notarized. Can you notarize them anyway?

A public notary is responsible to ensure that a signer is who they say they are. In Washington, an ID must be current or expired for less than 3 years to be considered an acceptable form of ID. In addition, last names must match the name on the document to be notarized. Passports, driver's licenses, or other government issued ID may be used as long as they have a photograph, signature and physical description of the signer. A notary may ask for additional ID to confirm identity. This is to protect the public from forgeries and identity thieves.

Can you tell me what form I need and help me fill it out?

Unfortunately, a notary cannot give legal advice. A notary may not select, draft or complete a legal document for another person, nor assist in such a manner. If assistance is needed choosing, filling out or filing a form, please check the Resources page or speak with an attorney.

What should I expect at my loan signing?

Expect to spend at least 45 minutes to an hour with the signing agent. Their job is to verify the signers identities, present each form in the package, make sure they are signed, initialed, and dated correctly, and notarize certain forms. The agent is also responsible for collecting any documents the lender has requested. Having W2s, closing cost monies, copies of IDs and any other requested documents gathered together beforehand will help the signing proceed more smoothly. Everyone that needs to sign should be present, and it is helpful to have a designated area (such as a cleared off table or counter) available to conduct the signing.

Do I need to come to where you are?

The great part about I-A Notary's services is that we are mobile and will travel to wherever is convenient for you. You get to chose the time and the location. Whether you want to have your notarization completed at your residence, your place of employment, or a neutral public area; we strive to make your appointment as hassle free for you as we can.
